Rev. George Richard Billington
1917-2009
Rev. George R. Billington of Upper Kingsclear, NB left this life at
Pine Grove to be with his Lord on February 26, 2009, leaving behind
his wife Dorothy after 61 years of marriage. He was born in
Lancashire, England on August 5, 1917 and came to Canada under the
auspices of Dr. Bernado’s Homes, making a new life in
Ontario.
His Christian training began at Prairie Bible Institute, Calgary, AB. He then went to Bible Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where he received the degree of Dr. of Bibliology and was ordained there to the Christian Ministry. He returned to New Brunswick to work under the United Baptist Convention for 23 years before going to Maine for 7 years. He then returned to New Brunswick to pastor the Prince William field for the next 9 years, where he retired as a pastor.
During his pastoral ministry he served as chaplain to the Justice Department for 14 years, a ministry he dearly loved and enjoyed working with young men and women and the staff. This work continued until he became disabled with a stroke in 1998. During these years he was forever patient and kind. He was honored to be the Pastor Emeritus to the Millville and Second Kingsclear Baptist Churches.
George is survived by his wife Dorothy (Flemming) Billington; a son Garry Billington (Sharon) of Fredericton; a daughter Susan Howell (Charles), Upper Kingsclear; six grandchildren, Rev. Chad Billington (Heidi), Autumn Billington, Douglas Billington, all of the Fredericton area, Benjamin Howell, Charlottetown, PE, Matthew Howell (Karla), Upper Kingsclear and Peter Howell, Calgary, AB; two great granddaughters, Savanna Billington and Zoë Billington; sisters-in-law, Glenna Liston, Maple Ridge and Hazel Flemming, Millville; brothers-in-law, Ronald McGuigan, Millville and Garth Piper, Knoxford; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Edith Hatton and infant daughter Judith Irene.
Visitation will be held at the Second Kingsclear Baptist Church, 15 Mazerolle Settlement Road, Upper Kingsclear on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the church on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. with Rev. James Cowan, Rev. Jarvis Lepper and grandson Rev. Chad Billington officiating. Interment will be later at Hawkins Corner Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren Benjamin, Matthew and Peter Howell and Chad, Douglas and Autumn Billington.
