Benjamin Algar

2001-2021

Benjamin Algar
Peacefully at home, with his loving family at his side on Wednesday July 7th, 2021 at the age of 20. Beloved son of Danita (nee Fox) and Tony. Loving Brother of Grace and Hayden. Cherished Grandson of Barb and Dana Fox, and Pam and Keith Algar, Cherished Nephew of Tim (Tanya) Fox, Scot Fox, Peter (Diane) Algar, Lori (Dunster) White, and cousin to Drew (Brad) Burrows, Laiken Fox, Emily Algar, Holly Algar, and Jayden Algar. Numerous ‘Canadian’ Family including Godparents Amy Cummings and Scott Feener, several ‘Australian’ Family and Friends and many beloved friends and ‘Chosen family” Brett McGonigal and Kyle Spencer.

Ben was easy to be around. A true-blue friend. Quiet in nature but strong in character. While Ben was quiet and reserved, you could always count on him for a dry remark and a half smile. He was selfless and humble.

Ever the athlete, Ben seemed to pick up every sport he put his hand to. His favourite sports were volleyball, soccer, fishing and golf. He joined most school sports and loved e-sports and gaming. Although quiet, Ben was an amazing team player and was respected by peers and coaches. That strength of character made him a good leader.
After high school, Ben studied Trade Fundamentals at Durham College and was enrolled to specialize in Carpentry. He wanted to move to New Brunswick and work as a carpenter.
Perhaps one of Ben’s strongest passions was for food. His illness took away some of the taste or desire to eat, but his list of foods to have when he felt well again was lengthy.
Perhaps the most notable trait that Ben displayed was his bravery. Throughout his illness, he demonstrated strength and perseverance. In spite of hardships, Ben remained gentlemanly and kind to others. He could be feeling awful and would still ask a nurse how she was doing. Everyone who knows Ben is proud to count him as their friend. Ben will be missed by so many.

Family visitation and a service to celebrate Benjamin’s life was held at the DeStefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa, Ontario (905)440 3595 on Saturday July 10th, 2021.

A committal service will be held at the Lenentine Cemetery, 1868 Route 105, Southampton, NB on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 2 p.m. and friends are welcome to attend.
