Gordon Eldon Toner

1929-2021

Gordon Eldon Toner
It is with great sadness we announce Gordon E. Toner of Harvey Station, NB passed away July 29, 2021 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital at the age of 91. He was the son of the late Raymond and Florence (Kitchen) Toner and in addition to his parents was predeceased by his loving wife, Letty, his loving daughter Jo-Ann Hood and his sister Alice Harris.
Gordon was born on November 30, 1929. He started working for the CPR in Harvey as a section man at the age of sixteen, retiring at the age of fifty five. If there was a broken rail or a missing bolt, he was the man who found it.
He enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, playing cards, doing puzzles, scratching lottery tickets and doing seek a word puzzles. He also loved watching the trains and counting the cars. We will never forget his love for cookies and pink peppermints which he always had a bag of in his pocket.
He is survived by his children, Eldon Toner (Kathy), Fredericton, NB, George Toner (Jennifer), Harvey, NB and Marvena Harris (Alfred), Tracy, NB; a son-in-law, Albert Hood, Harvey, NB; a brother-in-law, Art Harris; a sister-in-law, Noreen Jolley (Alex); a special nephew, Burton Toner; his grandchildren, who he loved dearly, Ryan Toner (Holly), Dylan Harris (Tanisha), Derek Toner, Timmy Hood (Sarah), Tara Toner, Amanda Hood, Lydia and Clinton Case; his great grandchildren, Jacob, Nathan, Gordon, Wyatt, Alice, Freya, Chantal and Denver; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of 4SW at DECH and White Rapids Manor in Fredericton Junction, NB while he was a resident there. Their professional care made him feel at home. Special thank you to Rhonda Moore (or Wanda as Gordon called her) for the in-home care and love for our Dad.

A private graveside service was held at Harvey Settlement Cemetery on Sunday, August 1, 2021 with Albert Hood officiating. Scriptures were read by Gordon's granddaughter, Amanda Hood.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Timmy Hood, Dylan Harris, Ryan Toner and Derek Tone and his two sons-in-law, Albert Hood and Alfred Harris.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Gordon, the family has suggested the Harvey Settlement Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
