Alan Douglas Clarkson

1963-2024

Alan Douglas Clarkson
Al "Goodguy" Clarkson of Bear Island, NB passed away on April 11, 2024 after a courageous fight with cancer with his partner of 18 years, Jessie, and his dog, Victor, at his side.

Al was born in London, Ontario on March 2, 1963. He was predeceased by his father, Frank and his mother, Beatrice (Spidle) Clarkson. Besides Jessie, he is survived by his older brother, Neil (Liane), Lunenburg, NS and two nephews, Kyle (Alisha), Moncton, NB and Sean (Gabby), Peace River, AB; two sisters-in-law Alice Clarke, Ontario and Sylvia Hurley, Nova Scotia.

Al retired from London Hydro in 2018 after 31 years of dedicated work. He always said "good, better, BEST" and wouldn't give the guys a rest until the best was done. No wonder he got the nickname "Crusty".

His greatest joy was his Bird Dogs! He was most proud of King and Duke from Arnold and Ingrid Eshe. Al and Arnold formed a special kinship, a like passion. When not in fields and woods with dogs, it was spring & fall hunting. His friend, Ted, was another game birder and their bantering of who knew more was always entertaining.

When it came time to help people who needed trained arborist work, Keyes, a long time friend, and Al had it figured out.

Jessie and Al moved to Bear Island in 2018. Al being 'Al the good guy’, soon met Don, a dedicated fishing enthusiast. Don would call Al anytime and say ‘ready for a fishing trip’ and off they’d go.
Sunday visits from Owen were announced by Victor! Treats are here!
Homemade lemon meringue pie from Betty was Al’s treat.
He was predeceased by his faithful hardworking pointing dogs, King, Duke, Morgan, Roxy, Rickie, and Mason. They are waiting to greet their Big Dog Al, to once again get into the field.
His youngest dog, Victor, became his guardian once Al began having daily health care visits at home! Good friends like Nurse Jane can attest!
Al had many friends with whom he kept in touch, they will miss him too. I thank them for staying in touch.

There is one thing I will forever cherish: Al and I always spoke to each others heart and mind. We never saw tomorrow coming so soon.

I take a walk through our woods and I’m surrounded by what we had together, what I breathe and taste now is our past. To be treasured till I join him.

I so wanted for him to fight more. Our hearts knew he had fought long enough. Many thanks to the dedicated staff at Upper River Valley Oncology who cared for Al during his many months of treatment. A big note of appreciation to Angela and her team. Extra Mural home care provided so much and the caring team at Hospice House in Fredericton gave exemplary compassion and care.

Suggestions for donations in Al's memory are your local Hospice House or your favourite animal shelter.

Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 1 to 2 pm, followed by the funeral service. A reception will follow in the funeral home dining room.
