Owen O. Briggs, formerly of Rossville, NB passed away at York Manor, Fredericton, NB on March 15, 2015. Owen was born at Temperance Vale, NB in 1927, a son of the late George and Rose (Clark) Briggs.
Owen worked as a signalman for CPR as well as a gravel truck operator. He plowed snow for many years, including the sidewalks in Nackawic. Owen farmed for several years at the Briggs homestead in Temperance Vale. Later, he and his wife operated Briggs Rest Home in Rossville, together with their family. Owen enjoyed curling and he loved music, playing informally with groups on his tambourine.
He is survived by two daughters, Doreen Graham (Fred), Upper Queensbury, NB and Ardith Wood (John), Calgary, AB; a son, Eldon Briggs (Christine), Rossville, NB; six grandchildren, Susan Mabie (Dana), Sherry Fox (Melvin), Erica Wood (Wayne), Katrina Briggs (Adam), Jennifer Briggs and Travis Briggs; eleven great grandchildren, Jacob, Brett, Shane, Ella, Simon, Harrison, Austin, Grayson, Jarred, Kelsey and Alex; a sister, Ruth Webber, Bedford, NS; a brother, Lloyd Briggs, Fredericton, NB; two brothers-in-law, Albert Stairs and Roland Woodward; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in the DeLong family; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Georgie (DeLong) Briggs in 1998; a daughter, Carol Briggs in 1976; five sisters, Iris MacDonald (Dean), Marjorie Bustard (Harry), Betty Trecartin (Aubrey), Eileen Stairs and Teresa Woodward; a brother, Elmo Briggs and a sister-in-law, Donna Briggs.
Visiting hours were held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 12 noon until the hour of service at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Brewer officiating. A Eulogy was delivered by Dean MacDonald. Music was provided by Janet Ingram and Ann Thornton. A reception followed at the Briggs home in Rossville, NB. Interment will be later at Otis Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Heber Lutwick, Lonnie Lutwick, Ernie Stairs, Randy Stairs, Earl DeLong, Wayne DeLong and Stephen Fearneley.
