Kendrick LEON Somerville
1929-2020
Leon had a long career as a pharmacist at Oliver’s Pharmacy (later Shopper’s Drug Mart), serving the residents of Oromocto, NB. He and his wife Edith enjoyed square-dancing with the Oromocto Pioneers Square Dance Club, ‘graduating’ with a Bachelor of Square Dancing in 1971 and serving as club presidents in 1979-1980. Their love of travel took the couple to many exciting locations around the world, including Florida, which they visited yearly for decades.
Leon is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Edith (McMurray) Somerville. He is lovingly remembered by his three children, David Somerville (Sandra), Lake George, NB, Carolyn Nicholson (Wayne), Lake George, NB and Susan Taylor (Allan), Netherlands; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Doucette (Sean), Jason Somerville (Natasha), Jessica Donaher (Marty), Andrew Nicholson, Jackie Myers (Chris), Josh Taylor and Ariel Taylor; eleven great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Addison, Brendan, Ethan, Devan, Zaidan, Jordan, Austin, Ryker, Dryden and Asher; two sisters-in-law, Annie Currie, Alberta Murphy and her husband Art, the brother he never had.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson Troy.
Although there was no visitation, friends were welcome to attend a funeral service at Oromocto Baptist Church, 10 Doyle Drive, Oromocto, NB on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Perry Hanley officiating. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at a later date at Magundy Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society of a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to thank the nurses of 4SW at the DECH and Dr. Bryden for their care and support. A special thank you to all the family and friends who have given their support throughout the years.
