Douglas Raymond Scammell, P. Eng. Douglas Raymond Scammell, P. Eng.
Douglas R. Scammell of Hanwell, NB and formerly of Toronto, ON and Lower Queensbury, NB passed away on November 4, 2022 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. He was born on May 27, 1938 at Fredericton, NB.

Douglas was employed as a Professional Engineer for 34 and a half years with Metro Toronto. Before moving to New Brunswick, he played and coached hockey and baseball and was a longtime member of Scouts Canada. He moved to Lower Queensbury, NB with his wife Loreen. They were foster parents for ten years. Doug and Loreen volunteered at Kings Landing for many years while they were settling down in NB. Doug was a Senior Goodwill Ambassador for the Province of NB. He was a member of the Nackawic Old Hawks Hockey team, a part-time time school bus driver, a dedicated member of TOPS, a member of St. Clements Anglican Church and a volunteer at the Fredericton Soup Kitchen.

He is survived by his wife, Loreen (Keeso) Scammell; his son Timothy Scammell (Cheryl), New Maryland, NB; grandsons Tyler and Braydon Scammell; his brother Richard Scammell (Denise), Troy, New York; sisters-in-law Beverly Merrit, Linda Anthony and Susan Rae (David); a brother-in-law John Briggs; several nieces and nephews.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Douglas Scammell and Annie May (Raymond) Scammell-McCullough; his first wife Zoe Porter; his daughter Hayley Peterson; three brothers James (late Margaret) and infants Thomas Walter and George Arthur Scammell.

Visiting hours were held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. A funeral service was held at St. Clements Anglican Church, 6831 Route 102, Dumfries, NB on Thursday, November 10, 2022 with Rev. David Mercer and Rev. Robert Barry officiating. A reception followed in the fellowship room of the church. Interment took place at Bear Island Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Drew Wagschal, Gordon Thompson, Tom Johnston, Kenneth Boyle, David DeVito and Vic Hape. Elizabeth DeVito was an honorary pallbearer.
