Georgena (Georgie) Marguerite Boyle

1925-2023

Georgena (Georgie) Marguerite Boyle Georgena (Georgie) Marguerite Boyle
June 8, 1925 - January 20, 2023
Georgena (Georgie) Boyle of Fredericton and formerly of Hawkshaw, NB, wife of the late James (Jim) Boyle, passed away peacefully at Shannex Thomas Hall on Friday, January 20, 2023 with her daughters by her side.
Georgie was born to the late Hedley and Amy (Young) Keys of Oromocto, NB on June 8, 1925. Upon graduating from high school, she attended nursing school but was unable to complete her training due to a brief illness. It was while she was teaching at a one room schoolhouse in the Browns Flat area that she met her future husband Jim. They married on New Year's Eve, 1946 and spent fifty-one plus happy years together until Jim's death in 1998.
Georgie was a stay-at-home mother during her daughters' younger years. As they grew older, she took over the position of Postmistress at the Hawkshaw Post Office, which she ran out of her home for a few years before moving to the newly built Nackawic Shopping Centre location. She retired from the post office in 1988 after twenty-two years of service. Never one to sit idle, Georgie was always busy preparing delicious meals, baking melt in your mouth sweets and desserts, sewing, knitting and crocheting numerous afghans, doilies and items of clothing for her family. Her green thumb produced abundant crops from her and Jim's vegetable gardens which she lovingly preserved for each winter's consumption.
Walking was a priority for Georgie; she briskly walked the Hawkshaw loop once and quite often twice daily. Her longtime friend and neighbour Hannah almost always accompanied her. Although Georgie was a hard worker, it was not all work and no play for her. At every opportunity she would lace up her skates and glide up and down the headpond in front of their house when conditions were safe, sometimes alone but quite often arm in arm with Jim. She enjoyed sliding with community friends and neighbours. Cross country skiing was also a favourite sport for her. She and Jim thoroughly enjoyed camping with their circle of friends. A full life well lived, indeed.
Georgie is survived by her two daughters Ann (Gordon) Hasson and Jane (late Gerald) MacDonald; grandsons Jimmie (Brittney) Hasson, Ben (Vanessa) and Brent MacDonald; great grandchildren Jamie (Matthew) Trail, Madison and Liam MacDonald, Lilianna, Jaymee and Blake Hasson; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Georgie was predeceased by her husband Jim, brother Leonard (late Bessie) Keys, son-in-law Gerald MacDonald, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Boyle family.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the devoted staff members of Thomas Hall for their excellent and loving care of our dear mother over the past nine and one half years. We also wish to acknowledge our appreciation for the devotion of mum’s full-time caregivers Almire, Angie and Colleen as well as the relief caregivers who made it possible for her to stay in her own home for fifteen years prior to entering long term care. We couldn’t have done it without you.
A committal service was held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11 am at Otis Cemetery, Nackawic, NB with Rev. Paul Legere officiating. Family and friends were invited to a reception at the home of Ann and Gordon Hasson, Southampton, NB.
In memory of Georgie, please perform a deed of kindness for a senior in your community.
