Lynn Eileen Scott

1948-2023

Lynn Eileen Scott
Lynn Eileen Scott passed away peacefully on the night of December 28, 2023, with her husband at her side. Lynn did not like to be the centre of attention, but she was always the centre for her many family and friends. Her unexpected passing has left a significant void for all who knew her.
Lynn was born on February 21, 1948 in McAdam, NB, the daughter of the late William and Edith (Hanson) Thomas. Lynn was a natural academic, earning a Birks Medal in 1966 for leadership, in addition to playing on two provincial championship sports teams. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick in 1970, one of very few women studying in that program at that time. Despite being told by a professor that women could not do math, her adult life was spent disproving this theory with a long career as a Certified General Accountant in a variety of positions. The last 30 years of Lynn’s career were spent with the Budovitch family of companies in Fredericton.
Over her life, Lynn volunteered as treasurer for various organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Society of New Brunswick and the Upper Kingsclear Baptist Church. Lynn’s practicality, dependability and common-sense approach made her a trusted mainstay for many professional and charitable organizations.
While immensely practical, Lynn had an extensive creative side. She was a talented sewer, knitter and gardener, with the ability to master any hobby she picked up. A whole generation of children have heirloom quilts she made to celebrate their births. Lynn was known as a “beautiful cook”, whether for a small family dinner or large celebrations, and especially known by her grandchildren for her famous chocolate pie. She made all things seem effortless and her hands were rarely idle.
Lynn was a voracious reader, a trait she passed on to her children. Her passion was mystery novels. Unlike other readers of the genre, she liked to read the end of the novel first, so she could relax while finishing the novel, without rushing to find out “who did it”.
A woman of deep faith, Lynn believed in living the tenets of her Christian beliefs. The family has been gratified to hear the many stories of how she touched the lives of others, whether financially, through words of encouragement, providing a place to live or other acts of kindness. She believed deeply in supporting others and always sought to provide a hand up if she was able to do so. She rarely shared what she was doing for others, and never sought credit. She delighted in the success of others.
Lynn was smart and quick with one-liners, and able to handle the consistent barrage of accountant jokes lobbed at her by her family. She was steadfast with her loving and kind approach with support that never wavered.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; her children, Sara and Aaron (Jennifer); her grand-daughters Amelia and Rachel; her brothers Eric Thomas (Olwen) and Kendel Thomas (Louise); sisters-in-law Melva Scott, Debbie Boles (Sheridan), Carolyn Scott, Giselle Scott and Sharon Scott; brother-in-law Lloyd Scott; her aunts Vera Bird (Phil) and Dianne LeBlanc (Louis); her uncle Reg Hanson; and her beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. While shocked by her passing, her family and friends are comforted by the lessons they learned from her and feel so blessed to have had her constant love and support.
The family would like to thank the first responders who attended on December 28, with gratitude to the Upper Kingsclear Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to acknowledge Deputy Fire Chief Murray Crouse and Cora Boyne, for their quick and compassionate response on that evening.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date and updated on this website. Arrangements are being made by Flewelling Funeral home in Nackawic, NB.
The love and support of family and friends, including Lynn’s church family, have been appreciated.
