Wayne Dexter Donaher

1943-2025

Wayne Dexter Donaher
It is with profound sadness yet gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our father, Wayne Dexter Donaher of McAdam, NB, born on July 27, 1943, in Targettville, NB. After a life filled with love, laughter and adventure, Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on October 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family on the palliative care unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Wayne was the devoted husband to the late Diane Donaher (Cleghorn), with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, love, partnership and family before her passing on September 23, 2024.

He was a loving father to his three children, whom he always cherished: Karen Soucy, Ricky (Kimberly) Donaher, and Derek (Krista) Donaher. Dad was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, whom he adored … Sarah, Chantelle, Matthew, Brooke (Vince), Aiden and Teagan, - as well as his precious great-grandchildren Hananiah, Wyatt, Gordon, Kaedence and Dax.
Born to William and Ruth Donaher (Thompson) of Targetville, NB, Dad was blessed to be part of a large, close-knit family. He is survived by his siblings, Carl (Gail) Donaher, Linda Thompson, Fred (Melody) Donaher, Barry (Gail) Donaher, Dean (Kathy) Donaher, Loney (Mike) Hudson, Donna (Timmy) Herbert and Bryan Donaher; as well as his brother-in-law Raymond (Edna) Cleghorn; aunts, uncles, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by both his parents; our mother Diane; siblings, Georgie, Laura-Lee and Roy; brothers-in-law, Wesley, Maurice and Archie; sisters-in-law, Stella, Arlene, Verna and Willie; son-in-law, Yves; two nephews, Stephen and Terry, and parents-in-law Kathleen and Archie.

First and foremost, Dad was a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather who lit up when speaking of his family. He built his life through hard work and commitment. Beginning his early career as a janitor at the University of New Brunswick, he later attended trade school in Moncton to become a burner technician. His exceptional talent earned him a position at Irving Oil before completing his training. He dedicated over 50 years to his profession, serving the residents of McAdam, the community he called home, and surrounding areas, helping countless families stay warm through long New Brunswick winters. His excellent service and genuine care for his customers were hallmarks of his career. After 22 years with Irving, Dad started his own business, Wayne Donaher Heating, committing 31 years before retiring last August. He forged great friendships with Stan from Kerr's for 37 years and Roy Sherman who was always there to help no matter what the need. His disciplined work ethic, professionalism and reliability earned him the respect of his peers and community.

Dad believed strongly in giving back to his community. As one of the original founding members of the McAdam Lions Club for 51 years, he later became a lifetime charter member. Over the years, he served as King Lion numerous times, holding various positions within the organization. He co-chaired Lions bingo and took immense pride in maintaining the club building for decades. His selfless service left a lasting impact on the organization and the community he loved.

Dad's greatest, most important passion was fishing. Whether casting a line into a lake, drifting down a river or deep-sea fishing, it was time best spent when side-by-side with his brothers. Year after year, those fishing trips became cherished traditions filled with laughter, stories and memories that will remain treasured forever.

We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.

A Lions’ Club Memorial Service was held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 53 Rockland Drive, McAdam on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 11 am followed by visiting hours until 2 pm, followed by the funeral service with Reverend Arnold Godsoe officiating. Family remembrances was brought by Wayne's sister, Loney. A eulogy was delivered by Frank Carroll. Music was provided by Valerie Thompson. A reception then followed at the McAdam Lions Community Centre. Interment will be held at a later date at Rockland Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Stan McNutt, Frank Poirier, Frank Carroll, Lawrence Gass, Willard McKay, and John Kilbride. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew LeBlanc, Aiden Donaher, Teagan Donaher and Roy Sherman.

Donations in memory of Dad can be made to the McAdam Lions Club, Lakeland Industries Food Bank or a charity of your choice.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses of 4NE and 3E palliative care for their kindness, compassion, and wonderful care of Dad, as well as Dr. Ramsey. A special thank you to Dr. Jill Hudson, who shared a special bond with Dad over the last 10 years.

John 11:25-26 25 “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
