Ruth Effie McGirr

Ruth E. McGirr of Fredericton, NB passed away November 16, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Ruth was born at Lower Pokiok, NB on July 18, 1923, a daughter of the late Ritchie and Effie (Simmons), McGirr. She was a school teacher, retiring following several years in Fredericton schools. Ruth was Anglican by faith and a member of the Anglican Church Women. For the past ten years she has resided at Farraline Place.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Bertha McGirr, Springfield, NB; a brother-in-law, Basil Grant, Woodstock, NB; nieces, Bonita O’Blenis (David), Riverview, NB, Melissa Girard (Richard), Montreal, QC, Helena McGee (Stanley), Port Cartier, QC and Lucille Grant (Lynwood), Woodstock, NB; nephews, Robert McGirr (Ellen), Nevada, USA, Leon Grant, Connecticut, USA and Allison Grant (Rose), Woodstock, NB and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Grant and infant Grace McGirr, two brothers, Angus McGirr and infant William McGirr and two nephews, Ritchie McGirr and Ralph McGirr.

Visitation was held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service was held at Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, NB on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. with Dean Keith Joyce officiating. A reception followed a the church following the service. Then interment took place at the Lower Pokiok Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David O’Blenis, Lynwood Grant, Allison Grant and Malcolm O’Blenis.
