Mary Pearl Sloan
Mary P. Sloan of Magaguadavic, NB passed away January 14, 2012 at Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. Born at Cloverdale, Car. Co., NB in 1917, she was the eldest of seven children of the late John and Tola (Milton) Billings. Mary spent several years in Connecticut as a nanny, wintering in Florida. Upon returning home in the late 1950's she began working at UNB in housekeeping. She married her second husband Hazen in 1967. Here in New Brunswick she enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, picking berries and especially loved watching the birds. Mary made many beautiful quilts for her grandchildren and was an avid knitter, creating countless sweaters during her thirty years knitting for Cottage Craft. She always enjoyed spending time with family and friends at get-togethers and her kind heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Sereta Fawcett, Magaguadavic, NB; a brother, Clifton Billings (Irma), Centerville, NB; two sisters, Joyce Elmhurst, London, ON and Bernice Stewart, Hartland, NB; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Sloan, Lake George, NB and Ada Sloan, Magaguadivic, NB; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Hazen Sloan, two sons, Bernard and Arlo Fisher, a grandson, Steven Fisher, a great grandson, Arnold Lee Walton, a sister, Alice Orser and two brothers, Donald and George Billings.

Visitation was held at Swan Funeral Home, 1826 Highway 3, Harvey Station, NB on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. when service was held with Rev. George Clark officiating. Special music was by Stephen Hetherington. A reception followed at the funeral home. Interment will be later at Sunny Bank Cemetery.

Pallbearers were nephews, Wayne Stewart, Bernard Stewart, John Stewart and Royce Billings.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Mary, the family has suggested the Sunny Bank Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
